The Weekend Tour Pro: Luke's Journey to Golfing Success - Episode 54

December 2, 2025·1 hr 29 min·5 clips
Dave starts with a plainspoken view that not every product in the bag should be tailor made. He says he is not competitive and does not necessarily want to win club competitions; he just wants to get better himself. After welcoming listeners to the Birdie Golf Club podcast, he introduces Luke, known as the Weekend Tour Pro. Luke runs a YouTube channel built around a gap he noticed in golf gear coverage. A lot of club review content comes from very strong golfers, often scratch golfers or better, while his channel speaks to the broader middle of the game. The chat then turns to fittings. Luke contrasts the fitting experience he had 11 years ago with the way he approaches them now. Back then, the fitter's skill was partly in translating the data into language he could trust. More recently, he feels able to walk into a fitting and understand the numbers well enough to talk about what is missing from his game. That helps, but it can also get in your head. They talk about how consumer knowledge has changed over the last decade. YouTube and easier access to information have made golfers more informed, and expectations for a fitting have risen too. Players now want to see launch monitor numbers and compare multiple shaft and head options. Luke says the old model of a shop stocking only a couple of brands does not feel like enough anymore. He compares the modern experience to a sweet shop where the golfer gets to choose from everything on the shelf. He also notes that some players still prefer a simpler, less data heavy route. Near the end, Dave praises Luke, says he will put Luke's socials in the description, and encourages people to follow his channel, Instagram, and TikTok. The episode closes with plans to get him back for another collaboration, ideally at Seaford Head, with drone footage if they can make it happen.
