Social Profit Governance in transition #2 - VIERNULVIER

·45 min·10 clips
Social profit organizations are facing major changes. The episode looks at how digitalization, marketing, and social expectations are forcing institutions to rethink governance. Lisbeth Ridder meets Frankie de Vos in conversation. He is the general coordinator of the Gentse Culture Palace 404, the Ghent house that had to find a new name after the 2022 shift from De Vooruit to Vooruit. The name change is not treated as a side note. It becomes a concrete example of how identity, public communication, and internal structure can shift at the same time. The conversation stays practical. Ridder keeps asking how board relations are organized, and de Vos answers by describing a setup in which the CEO is not the only link to the board. He argues that a single spokesperson creates too much power. It also risks blind spots because the board hears only one organizational story. The board therefore includes several voices. Directors, the artistic coordinator, the financial coordinator, and later two staff representatives all sit in the communication loop. Voting is not treated as the main event. The focus falls on guardianship, agenda setting, and making sure decisions stay tied to the broader mission. The episode also pays close attention to feedback. Two staff representatives report back to the team in a regular moment called the circus. That internal relay is there to keep the board from drifting away from the people it affects. A government commissioner also enters the picture. De Vos describes that relationship as strong because decisions are traced back to why the organization exists and what philosophy it wants to uphold. The result is a clear line: not a dramatic governance tale, but a disciplined one about transparency, shared authority, and keeping purpose visible through change.
