The story opens with the children still circling the plan to sneak out and watch a comet. Saskia and Zach settle into bedtime banter again, and the chapter revisits the end of the previous night while the narrator checks what everyone remembers and what still needs explaining. North Vancouver comes into view. The apartment building sits only a block from the forest, and the path into Monarch Trail feels like a proper threshold, with a cedar arch, missing branches, and a darker world just ahead. The chapter pauses to ask what words mean. Monarch is explained as both butterfly and king, and the scene keeps moving between the story and the little lesson before returning to the path. The forest grows darker. The children move deeper under the trees, and the mood shifts from city banter to something quieter and more alert as the path leads them toward the cliff and the open sky. The final view is simple and huge. From the cliff, they can see almost the whole sky in starlight and barely glimpse the city below, so the episode lands on the children sitting together on a bench, the boys standing behind them, all of them waiting for the comet. It ends there. The chapter closes with the same patient, half-playful bedtime energy it began with, leaving the listener inside a shared pause rather than a big dramatic finish.
