Series 2. The Worthy Soul - Part 3

·22 min·2 clips
A mysterious woman calls a vicar at night: 'Only a man of your calibre will do. Tell no one — especially your wife.'
Keith is already in a state. Gracie turns up with some family gossip and the whole room goes sideways. A joke about Star Wars pyjamas slides into a jab at Thomas the Tank Engine pyjamas, which only makes the mood sharper. Then Thomas being missing becomes the real issue. Sharon arrives with Dan, and the banter dies on the spot. A Russian woman is involved. So is Doctor Strange, somehow. Keith and the others start trying to work out where Thomas was last seen and what kind of trouble he may have wandered into. The answer seems to be a meeting in minutes, and nobody is staying calm. The Balmydale Cross then barges into the story with its own local nonsense. There is a legend about a box that must be reopened by a worthy soul, or the person doing it will drop dead instantly. Mildred is asked whether Reverend Wilkins has ever acted like a man of the cloth. The toilet seat complaint gets a mention. So does the possibility that he may have gone to meet the Russian with bad intentions in his heart. That is enough to get everyone moving. Except nobody actually knows where 'our place' is. That lands badly. The whole lot of them are left staring at each other, stuffed and out of ideas.

As heard by us

Village panic, deadpan quips, and a curse nobody wants to test.

A missing husband, a Russian woman, and a half-remembered legend about the Balmydale Cross send the village into panic, and Barmy Dale squeezes plenty from the smallest domestic humiliations along the way.
