#1 Coach on Tour Scott Hamilton Reveals What Actually Works

·34 min·2 clips
Hamilton says the modern PGA Tour driver needs a 46-degree landing angle and more right-arm widening, not right-arm bend.
Scott Hamilton comes in as a mentor, friend, and one of the best coaches in the world. The hosts start by asking what he is seeing right now with tour players. Scott says he used to be a 2D video guy and could make sense of drivers because shaft and plane were readable enough. Then 2017 changed the picture. He says Mike helped him buy Gears, and he had to weigh whether the cost, plus the building renovation, made sense. He says it absolutely did. He also says he thinks he has 3D on more tour players than anybody in the U.S., and that he is currently teaching 18 PGA Tour players. The conversation then turns to what stays steady from player to player. With Kirky, Scott says he is not reinventing the wheel. Kirky has push draws, does not mind missing left on the range because he says he will hold it off, and Scott calls him an original human. From there, the talk moves into swing patterns that do not always look tidy. Scott mentions players who carry too much right arm bend or come a bit across the line. Chris gets mentioned as a guy who can be a little steeper out of the top and still hit draws. Hoagie gets singled out as steep, with a bunch of right arm bend and a different look through the hit, but Scott says he is an unbelievable iron player and a top-five iron player every year. Scott keeps coming back to the same point: protect what players are great at, work around the weaknesses, make them a little better if you can, and do not ruin the superpower that makes them elite.
