A Greek Gods Olympic Adventure - Part 1

·27 min·1 clip
Hades gives Ros a donkey, then Hera swaps in a magical peacock and the mortals surge ahead.
Welcome to the Armchair Adventures Travel Agency, Journeys of the Imagination. Connie checks in with Skylar, Millie, and the joining-at-home adventurers before admitting that she is playing Hera, Queen of the Gods, in her school play. Her uncle Chris, who runs a community theatre company, arrives with a costume bag and starts helping her search for the Hera outfit. Connie says she has been freezing in rehearsals and going completely blank. Chris tells her acting runs in the family and keeps digging through the costume pieces. An Aphrodite's belt turns up first, and Chris helps sort out what it is. The story then jumps into ancient Greece as Zeus steps in to announce the Olympic Games. He lays out a lineup where gods and mortals will compete in the pancration, chariot racing, the pentathlon, and the stadium. The episode explains that pancration is a mix of wrestling and boxing. The ring is tiny, only about three and a half metres each side, with a stone floor that makes every fall sound rough. Listeners are asked which ancient event they would pick, and the answers range from driving games to throwing to pure strength. The show also explains that the stadium is like the 200 metres in modern terms. Chris says winning it could make someone a favourite of the gods and famous for years. Athena then arrives to face the mortals in the pancration. She comes in golden armour with the owl of wisdom at her side. Athena names herself, reminds everyone that she was born from Zeus's head, and boasts about her victories over wars and Medusa. The challenge is still underway when the clip cuts off, leaving the ancient crowd and the home listeners waiting to see what happens next.
