Kevin Gordon reveals a shocking media leak that endangered a downed pilot's rescue mission.
The morning starts with uncertainty. Gordon says a ceasefire was announced Tuesday night and a planned bombing was no longer expected, but he keeps circling the same loose end: nobody seemed fully clear on who had agreed to what. Oil prices had already steadied, which lets him move from the headline to the timing behind it. His harder anger is aimed at media coverage. He calls the handling of a downed pilot search disgusting and stresses that a rescue operation was still underway after a jet had been shot down. Then the show turns useful. Beth Wilson, manager of engine oil and DEF for the American Petroleum Institute, explains that the API mark is not decoration on a bottle. It means the product was vetted. Companies have to share what is in the engine oil, how it was made, and test results showing it matches the service category and viscosity grade on the label. The checks do not stop there. Wilson says API samples products already in the marketplace, compares them with the approved footprint, and works with marketers when something is off. Sometimes the bottle gets a clean pass. Sometimes the problem is plain shop-floor reality: a tanker was not cleaned properly, viscosity grades got blended, or a process needs fixing. If needed, product can be pulled back. Gordon keeps bringing it back to the driver. If the API donut is on the bottle, that still means checking the service category and viscosity grade against the owner's manual. DEF gets similar attention because the package needs to match what is inside. The close goes back to oil. Gordon points to a forecast miss, saying a 701,000-barrel build became 3.1 million barrels, a miss he pegs at 343 percent. The ceasefire is still the big caveat. For now, he says oil prices are coming down, and pump relief could show up within the next week to 10 days if things keep moving the right way.
